  • Mason Jars: Mason jars can be used in many ways. If you have time in hand say a day or two before your Diwali party then you can paint them and make designs on them. They look very pretty and festive when painted. You can use them as candle holders or flower vase, or as a simple holder. You can check out how to do this DIY http://mothersgurukul.com/decorative-jars/

But if you don’t have time then no worries, in your mason jar, add some big colored pompoms or flowers and place ferry lights inside. Now when you will turn them on, they will look as pretty as any other painted jars. You can use these on your side tables.

  • Rangoli: Alike lights, Rangoli is the heart of Diwali. Till last year, I used to make Rangoli with colored paper cutouts and stick them on a big paper. But this year, I am going to do it with colored power as we do it in India. Making Rangoli requires time. Here we don’t have a holiday for Diwali. But luckily this year, Diwali is on Sunday so it’s manageable. If you don’t have enough time then use flowers and big leaves and some clay diyas for Rangoli. It will also brighten up space. If you are looking for something simpler then consider using Fresh flowers in place of Rangoli. If you are good at flower arrangement then get a flower arrangement sponge and place it in a glass bowl. Now arrange fresh flowers in a way you want to.
  • Lamps: Those tall brass/copper lamps look very pretty when decorated with flowers. Place the lamp wherever you want to. Then arrange the flower garland around it. You can also use individual flowers for this. If you mix two colors then it will look even more pretty.
  • Candles: Diwali and candles go hand in hand. These days you get a variety of candles -scented and unscented. As per your liking, get a few candles. You can use wine glasses for the candle placement. Turn the glass upside down and use the base of the glass for placing the candle. To make it more beautiful, place a few flowers inside the bottom part. Arrange candles at different heights. You can also use floating candles for your centerpiece, or as Rangoli, side table, dining table. Here is a quick candle art that you can do.

  • Plain glass vases: If you have any plain glass vases then think of decorating them with whatever embellishments you have at home. Some pearls, beads, ribbons, stones, even Rakhi. Believe me, it looks very elegant and can be done in no time.

  • Order online: This option is always there. If you know what you are going to need for your Diwali décor then great. It saves a lot of time. You can always give your personal touches by placing it at the proper place, beautifying it with adding some other items to it. This year, I wanted to decorate my Pooja room with Marigold flowers. I ordered it through Amazon. Well, it can’t replace the beauty of natural Marigold but I am happy to see the festive look in my Pooja Room.

So, these were a few of my last-minute Diwali Décor ideas. You can also involve your kids in some of these decoration projects. If you are looking for some Diwali printable to keep your kids busy while you work on these projects then here are some of the ideas. Always remember, make-overs are not very difficult and they don’t have to be with expensive items all the time. Using what you have and giving it a touch of creativity can make your house look new and beautiful. What do you do when you have very limited time in hand?
