Monsoon moments: 8 things that can awaken your senses during monsoon season

Monsoon is that time of the year when Mother Nature looks at its best. Everywhere lush greenery, everything looks fresh and welcoming. You feel happy from inside. In Houston, we don’t get to enjoy Monsoon season in particular. But few things that awaken my senses whenever I think about monsoon are the earthy smell, paper boats, yummy pakodas, and hot steaming tea. What else can you think? My list is long. But before that let me shower you with few raindrops…

“Let the rain kiss you, Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops. Let the rain sing you a lullaby. – Langston Hughes”

Monsoon Moments

  • Sail paper boats in puddles: “Bachapan ki woh ameeri na jane kaha kho gai. Varna kabhi barish ke pani me hamare bhi jahaaz chala krte the.”(I wonder where that richness of childhood has lost. Otherwise our boats used to sail in the rain water).  Let’s pause our busy lives and let’s relive our childhood days. We all have made paper boats in our childhood days but haven’t we stopped enjoying these mini but special moments as we grow old? Why not enjoy those moments again with our kids?

  • Playing outside in rain: As kids, we have enjoyed playing outside in rain but we stop our kids to have that fun. If the weather permits, and if your kiddo is eager to play in the rain say football or cricket then do it.

  • Enjoy street food with hot steaming chai (tea) at home: I don’t think anyone will say no to this. But instead of getting it from outside, make it at home. To me, the best part of monsoon is crispy pakodas, samosa, and hot chai. If you are into natural ingredients and real spices then  Wellness Infusion Teacan be your option. TE-A-ME is the brand which has come up with these infused teas. I like cardamom in my tea. Turmeric is the queen of protective herbs. When these two spices blend together in form of tea, the result is in the form of wellness infusion.  On a monsoon day, you will feel as if Mother Nature is giving you a warm hug. Unlike regular milk tea, it doesn’t take that long to prepare. What you have to do it place a tea bag in a cup of boiling. Let the tea infuse for 3 to 5 minutes. Remove the tea bag and add sugar or honey, as per taste (optional).

  • Listen to your favorite songs with snacks: Creating a playlist of monsoon songs would be perfect. Listening to them makes you feel the monsoon drizzle in your veins. But if you like music in general then play any of your favorite songs.

  • The Smell of mud: I love the earthy smell. No perfume can beat the fresh smell of wet soil. It just freshens my soul in a few seconds and I feel like smelling it

  • Watch a movie with the family: Monsoon days can be a perfect time to spend some quality time with your family. Pick a good movie and watch it with your family.

  • Do you still try to spot a rainbow? : For most of us, the answer is no. Something that used to be exciting has lost its charm as we grow old because we understood the science behind it. Let’s forget science and enjoy the rainbow once again.

  • Be a kid again, surrender yourself to nature: This is not my favorite part but I have seen people surrendering themselves to Mother Nature and dance, jump for joy, and celebrate.

So, next monsoon, don’t just get wet, feel the rain. Will you?

I would like to thank Prime sponsor TE-A-ME and hosts Sayeri from sayeridiary.com and Jhilmil from mommyinme.com , for having this fun carnival!
