When She Found Her Soulmate In Her Best Friend…

Sometimes, some days look so tough as if everything seems going against us. Whatever we do, nothing seems right. We just go with what comes in front of us. We take one day at a time, but we don’t enjoy it. Those are the days when we need a reason to break the monotony of our life. We need a reason to remind ourselves how badly we need a break. Sometimes it could your close friend, your soulmate who can become that reason.

3 years earlier,

Ragini was a new admission in their college for Masters. Advertising was her major. She was very good in studies, hard-working, sincere, and friendly. In short, whatever could be the definition of a good student, Ragini was a perfect fit. No doubt teachers were very impressed by her work.

Kartik, on the other hand, who was in Advertising earlier but later shifted to Finance was a fun-loving, good at studies but take a chill-pill type of a guy. When he switched to Finance, everyone was quite shocked. Finance and Kartik don’t compliment each other. That’s what everyone thought. Kartik used to come to meet his old friends in the Advertising department. During such casual meet-ups, he met Ragini. In no time both of them became each other’s friend. You can call them BFFs. Ragini’s sincerity found a good balance of Kartik fun-loving spirits. It was just friendship nothing more than that (at least for Ragini). She wanted to concentrate on her studies.

In campus interviews, both of them got job offers as per their wish. The icing on the cake was they were going to be in the same city. Initially, they tried to meet at regular intervals but later with business, they lost touch.

And Today….

Ragini was talking to her mom. It was 1:00 am and she was still at work wrapping up her report. She couldn’t concentrate and decided to leave. She was telling her about a rough day at work and how her boss gave her an ultimatum to crack the deal. She was in a very bad mood. “Ragini, calm down. Now, take three deep breaths,” her mom said. Ragini got in the Uber she had booked from work. She settled herself and took three deep breaths. “Okay, now I am feeling better. I will call you once I reach home. Bye Maa,” Ragini hung up. As she was going to take the next three breaths, she heard a “Hello” in the car. She looked and was surprised to see Kartik – her best friend sitting next to her. She didn’t know what to say. Her happiness had no boundaries. “Kartik, you?!! What a pleasant surprise. How are you? Where were you? Single or? I can’t..omg…,” Ragini was so excited that she couldn’t even finish the sentence.

“Cool down Ragini. These many questions in one go? I will answer them one by one. I am doing well. I have been in Bombay only just switched job. I am working in Corporate Banking now. And yes, still single,” Kartik had gotten way calmer than what he used to be in college. “You tell me how’s life? Are you still with your old ad agency? How is work? Are you still single or found Mr. right?”

“Well. I will also answer your questions one by one. Life is going..hmm…okay okay. I too have switched to a new company and a new role. Work, don’t ask. That’s what is killing me. No time to find Mr. Right.”Ragini was not a mood to talk about work at this hour

“Ohh, that’s surprising. I felt that you guys must be having a cool job, not like us who work in Finance. People call us boring you know.” Kartik said in a light mood.

“Cool? Seriously? No ways. I didn’t even remember when was the last time I had a full 8 hours sleep. You know, I got 3 rejected drafts today & now what I have is my last chance to crack the deal. My boss is a workaholic and he wants all of us to be like him,” Ragini said in a complaining tone.

“Hmm..I don’t know much about it but I can only say some days are like that. Just chill. I am sure you will crack the deal. That’s my friend Ragini. She will not leave any stone unturned.” Kartik was surprised to see this change in Ragini. Ragini he knew was never restless, complaining. She was always full of hopes and positivity.

“It’s easy for you to say this Kartik. The ads that you see on TV are not ready in a day or two. A lot goes in it. Every ad is a new project for us. There is no carry forward from the previous project. Anyways, can we not talk about the job?” Ragini finally declared no more job –related talks.

“As you say Maam. How about meeting tomorrow for lunch? Where is your office? I can pick you up?” Ragini gave him the address. While she was halfway through telling the address, Kartik completed it. And they both started laughing. “Seriously, I can’t believe it. We have been working in the same building but we never met? This is unbelievable.” Ragini didn’t know what to say.

“Alright, then Ragini. I will pick you up from your office at noon.” Kartik said bye as it was time for Ragini to get down. You will crack the deal. I trust you. And one more thing. I am sure you have not realized it. Tomorrow is Feb 14th. Can I call it our first date?” Kartik had never expressed his feelings to Ragini but today was the right day.

Ragini was blushing. She managed to say, “Sure. I will be waiting. Thanks, Kartik for your support and trust in me,” she couldn’t say much. But she left in a totally opposite mood. Now she was in all the good spirits, positivity, freshness. She was full of hopes and yes love. Why she shouldn’t be? After all, she had found her old friend today and her soulmate too….

So, this was the story of Kartik and Ragini. Ragini had found Kartik when she badly needed a reason to make her realize her true strength and to introduce her to her old self. Kartik came like a cool breeze in her life and took Ragini with him.
