E: Explore the world of colors with kids. Lets do Okra stamping

We are at letter “E” of the word Parenting. Today’s post is a combination of parenting and craft. Colors hold an important place in our lives. Not only they make our life beautiful, but each color holds a mood or a meaning. Many people wear colors according to the days of the week. Colors affect our mood too. When we talk about colors, a painting comes in our mind instantly. Right now, when we are finding different ways to keep our kids entertained, paintings come as an all-time favorite option. In the past, I have shared an oak leaves watercolor painting. Today’s painting is with one of our favorite vegetables. I am talking about Bhindi or Okra. So, let’s name it “Okra stamping.”Did you know that okra is great for stamping beautiful flowers?

This painting, I made with my almost 4-years old kiddo. He loved it. They had a carpool farewell party. Sounds funny right? Since they were going to have a proper farewell party but keeping in mind the current situation, they decided to do it in a new manner. They asked us to stay in the car and come to the designated spot.  Teachers were there with a gift that they have made for each kid. My kiddo prepared this card along with a small gift for his teachers. In this, Okra will work as the stamp. So, let me share this super cool, extremely easy craft with you.

Okra Stamping

You will need:

  • Okra – 2 or 3 (remove the top)
  • Paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Mixing plate or a disposable plate
  • Paper towels or a piece of cloth
  • Card stock
  • Sponge

Let’s make Okra stamping:

Okra stamping

  • On a plate, squeeze out some paint. Don’t mix water.
  • With the help of the sponge, apply it on the okra. Or take dip the Okra and dip it in the paint. Make sure you don’t press it too hard. Pressing it hard will allow the color to go inside the small circles. By pressing it gently, we will get the perfect flower shape. Using sponge is recommended.
  • Now, on the card stock, press the paint-dipped okra.
  • Repeat the same process until you are done with the stamping.
  • Make the stems and leaves with the paintbrush. Let it dry completely.
  • Your card is ready. Personalize it with your message. This is a great option for some handmade cards or a hand-stamped wrapping paper.
  • Do try it out and let me know how did it go. If you like, do share the pictures of the finished card on social media and tag me. I would love to see your masterpieces.
