Whispers of Womanhood – A simple tale of two travelers

Sometimes, we meet people in our lives who are opposite our nature. But still, we feel a connection. We often hear that women are famous for their chattiness. But Sometimes, the unspoken words also make the difference. That is when we say silence speaks louder than words. In fact, at some occasions, it’s their whispers that speak. In fact, we engage in such whispers to ourselves all the time. Don’t we?

This story is about two acquaintances – Sudha and Mandira, who became best friends during a solo trip. Sudha was a calm and a bit introverted girl. Very organized in her work, thoughtful, and mature she was. Her calm nature has helped her sail through many challenging situations. Mandira, on the other hand, was like a free-flowing river, full of life, enthusiastic. She had a natural charm that can instantly put anyone at ease.

It was Friday night. Sudha was finishing up her chores in a hurry. After giving the kitchen a quick look, she turned towards the fridge to check if the food container was properly packed for the next day. Her nighttime routine was quite fixed. A warm bath, writing in her diary, which she used to keep along her bedside, then reading a couple of pages from a book. But today, she had a few extra tasks before going to bed. She wanted to give a final check to her bags; she had to keep a light jacket, put the laundry in the machine.

“Ummm…everything is done. What else was left?” She, often would remind herself for her to-do list with such whispers. Her mind was thinking and ensuring she hadn’t forgotten anything essential. She was excited about her first solo trip to Singapore. Although it was not solo in a true sense, she was going to meet her travel buddies at the airport.

Shudha set the alarm for 4 am and went to bed. She had so much to write in her diary but could not find the exact words. She wrote “excited for the upcoming week” and turned off the lights. While imagining her trip, she didn’t realize when she fell asleep.

Sudha woke up with the alarm sound. Like her nighttime routine, she also had a mini morning routine. This 5-minute routine gave her positivity, hope, and good vibes to begin her day. She quickly took a shower and entered the kitchen to make herself a cup of ginger tea with a pinch of cardamom. While the tea was boiling, she watered the plants.

Since she had already done all the preparation the night before, she had nothing to panic about. The pleasant aroma of ginger cardamom tea filled her so very inviting kitchen. She poured the tea into her favorite tall cup and sat on the dining table. “Ahh…that’s the tea I like.” She whispered to herself while enjoying every sip. She took her packed lunch box, dropped some snacks in her handbag, and grabbed her suitcase. After ensuring all the windows were locked, she locked the main door and sat in the cab she booked while sipping the tea.

Now, let’s see what’s going on at Mandira’s place…

After a late and crazy day at work, Mandira could barely have a proper dinner. She wanted to plan ahead and keep some home-cooked meals in the freezer, but thanks to her easy-go and take-a-chill pill nature, she waited till the last day. Unfortunately, a day she assumed was light was packed for her. Her colleague heard Mandira’s whispers a couple of times throughout the day. She knew about her travel so she tried to help her as much she could.

Mandira thought of leaving work early and cooking what she could call a full meal. She planned to pack a portion of it for her trip. But her planning went all wrong with an unexpected change in a project. “Why did everything go wrong on the day I wished to leave early?” She mumbled in a frustrating tone, then grabbed her purse and car keys and rushed to the door. She picked up pizza on her way, thinking that at least she had something to eat after her busy day at work.

But when she opened the door, she looked at her suitcase which was nowhere close to the final. She looked at the warm pizza and then at her messy suitcase and scattered stuff she was supposed to pack two days ago. She decided to finish the packing. “Why did you pick today for all the chaos?” She looked up and whispered to herself. That warm, aromatic pizza was transformed into a cold piece of bread. She barely had any energy to warm it up, so she gobbled just one slice. And then straight went to bed. At least her morning was better than night. She woke early, took a warm shower, and left for the airport.

Meeting their traveling buddies..

Sudha and Mandira both reached the airport around the same time. They exchanged a quick smile at the check-in counter. After security, they saw their other group members as they approached their gate. All of them had a freshness on their face. It was time to board the flight. Sudha and Mandira got the window and iel seat. During flight, they didn’t talk much. But something clicked between them. They were waiting for each other, saving a spot for the other one. It was like their minds whispered and they found a good friend in each other. Mandira’s full-of-life attitude complimented Sudha’s quietness.

Bonding time..

Initially, Mandira was surprised to see Sudha’s organized lifestyle. “How can anyone be so composed and organized?” This thought lingered in her mind every time she talked to Sudha. Sudha opened up a lot to Mandira and shared how she overcame a rough patch in her life. Why this was a much-awaited and much-needed trip for her to regain confidence. And how some micro habits transformed her life into a new version. But she was also surprised to know the struggles in Mandira’s life. A bubbly, full-of-life-looking girl had faced many setbacks in her life. This made her think we all have to deal with our hardships.

Mandira never imagined that so much pain was hidden behind that calm face. She was shocked to know the reason behind Sudha’s thoughts and habits. She never thought about how micro habits can make you a new person. Mandira never thought she would get along so well with a person opposite to her temperament. But their minds whispered to each other. Sudha had a new page to write in her diary-whispers of womanhood, and Mandira had many takeaways from this trip.
