Are you planning a summer birthday party or just a regular party? Are you done with Princess, Dora, Winnie the Pooh theme party? Here is the answer.. the party we had last week – my daughter’s 6th birthday. It was a Tea Party birthday.
Luckily, most of my friends have girls so it was a Tea Party for Little Girls. Tea party is a grown-up affair. But for little girls, it provides the perfect setting and opportunity to celebrate special occasions like holidays and birthdays. The ideas are endless for setting the stage for your adorable little girl’s party.
My daughter’s first tea party was when she was 3.5 years old. I don’t think she remembers it now. For kids it was more of a Cupcake Party or say a Play date. I asked my daughter, & she said YES in first go….Why wouldn’t she…after all it’s about her friends coming home & they were going to have a Cupcake Party. I asked her ‘Can you plan your Cupcake Party? Tell me what you want me to do.’ She was so excited that she is the in-charge & is helping mommy in the planning. She said ‘we will need cupcakes with colored icing. I like Red Icing.’ I took her to the Bakery & she selected seriously Red, Green & Purple colored icing cupcakes. I was trying to convince her that look that White icing is looking so pretty. That will taste really good. But then she pointed towards a big birthday cake & asked me can we get that one? Kids are kids. The reason I still remember that party is because after they all went back home, I asked her how was it? She said ‘I loved it.’ I asked her should we do it again. She said yes & gave me another suggestion- ‘Can we have a Mac ‘n’ Cheese Party next time?’ Why? She was watching ‘Barney’ & in that they had a Mac ‘n’ Cheese Party.
But, this time she knew what do we do on a tea party. So, mom was given clear instructions by her little girl not to start the preparations until her school ends. She made the list of her friends, decoration stuff etc. I told her my ideas and we worked as a team.
Come, join us to know what all we did for her 6th birthday…
- For Center piece:
We made Gummy bear/Fruit slices skewers. Kids are little choosy about fruits so we thought gummy bear skewers would be a better option. It looked very colorful which served our purpose of having a center piece.
The food for a tea party can include sandwiches, pastries, cupcakes, cakes, biscuits (cookies), crackers etc.
- Snacks:
Colored marshmallows, Veggie crackers and Veggie straws were served as munching snacks while they all played the games. At the end, we all had Pani-puri (Indian snack).
- Did we serve regular Tea?
No, we served Apple juice instead.
- Whale and Shell Sandwiches:
These mini sandwiches were just perfect for the tea party. We made two kinds of sandwiches: Nutella and Cream cheese. We used cookie cutter for cutting the whale & shell shapes. The big coffee mug with flower placed right in the center of our serving plate set the mood and ambiance for our tea party.
- Dessert:
It’s summer time, so why not to have some ice cream? We served homemade vanilla ice cream in cones with a chocolate pretzel on the side. That gave it a look of a tea cup to some extent. For homemade ice cream, I followed the same recipe as Kulfi. But instead of adding Pistachios and Cardamom, I added Vanilla essence. And it was Homemade Vanilla ready!!
I hope this post will give you some ideas for planning your next party..
Happy Birthday to your daughter !!! It all looks wonderful … especially those homemade vanilla ice creams 🙂 Wishing you all the best !
