Organizing Ideas For Kid’s Bedroom

I personally feel that chaotic bedroom makes you feel tired. Whether it be grown-ups or kids. Expensive and fancy decorative doesn’t makes any bedroom look nice – it must be tidy, clean and organized too. Same applies when it comes to organize kid’s bedroom. Once your child start to write or scribble or draw, you get to see papers-papers and papers.. Small pieces of papers, loose sheets and the pile keep on growing. Every time you look at the pile, you decide to do something but again it goes on the back burner. So, let’s take care of these loose papers first. These are some of my organizing ideas for kid’s bedroom.

  •  Each member attending school should have an Academic File.

My action plan for this:  I have maintained 3 main files for my daughter. She is 6.

    (i)  Report Cards & Certificates File

(ii)  File for holding her school work sheets: This helps me in keeping a track of her school work and practicing the    same at home. This file has to be updated at regular intervals. You cannot hold all the papers till the last day of school.

(iii)  File for any important paper that has to be send back to school.

(iv)   For kids in higher grades you can maintain subject-wise files.

Now, the kid’s bedroom:

  • We all have different way of living. That’s what we call family culture. Same way, some houses have more spaces than others. But everything boils down to one basic thing – how you use that space?; How beautifully you or your kiddo has kept the closet neat and tidy?; or how clean is the work space? According to me this is what matters more.
  •  So, let’s divide it into 2 parts – (i) Clothing storage, (ii) Play Area & Work space

Clothing:

Kids like to do things in an organized way. At school they do it right? But we have to guide them. Firstly, ask them to follow this simple rule : Clothes needs laundry will go into the ‘wash’ basket & returned to their designated spot once clean. Now, please don’t expect this from young ones and also in the very first go.

Secondly, clothing purchase. One word for this could be Impulse Purchasing. This is the area that is parent’s responsibility. Kid’s outfits are so cute that we get carried away. But think twice-thrice. Apply the same purposeful attitude towards buying their clothes (that we have discussed in precious post) that you have developed for yourself. Kids grow fast. There will be sudden growth spurs.

Play Area & Work space:

  •  Sort out markers, broken crayons, and pencil colors. Re-use broken crayons.

  •  Sort out writing pads, coloring books, and sticker books.

Note: Go through your kid’s clothes, toys, and papers regularly. I pick a day and ask my daughter to help me in this task. While doing this you are teaching them the act of giving.

Now, all you have to do is to Maintain. Don’t put back anything that is not required there. I always tell my daughter to make a practice of putting things away at their designated spot once she is done using them.

So, we finally managed to organize all that clutter. I hope you will agree with me that organizing is incredibly powerful. Make an organized move. Let’s start today-let’s start now.

I know everyone has different ways of organizing. These organizing ideas for kid’s bedroom worked for me. For organizing in general check the previous post. Also, I would like to hear what do you do?
