New CG-Friendly range on the block: Curlvana Review

If you are reading this blog, I am presuming that you have curly/ wavy hair. And if you do, then you might be aware of the struggle to find the correct hair care products that suit our needs. As a child, I had poufy, unmanageable curly hair. I hated when other girls in my class had thick silky, straight hair whereas I stood out from the crowd because of my unmanageable mane. As a solution to my  problems, my mother used to oil my hair 4 times a week and tie it in braids. This method helped for many years, and I was happy that my hair wasn’t out of place at all times, but then the inevitable happened; I grew up and started detesting oily hair. I was desperate to find a solution and therefore tried myriad products in the market but nothing helped. Finally, after many years, my quest is over. I have found the ultimate Indian curly hair routine and I couldn’t be happier.

New CG-Friendly range on the block: Curlvana Review

The Curlvana brand

So let’s cut to the chase and get the cat out of the bag. I have recently been using products for Indian curly hair by a new brand Curlvana. Cool name, right? I purchased their ultimate kit from Amazon and have tried it for about 5 to 6 weeks before writing this review. Since it’s a new brand, let’s discuss its claims:

“Curlvana is a brand specially designed for curly-haired people. A curly-haired person goes through many challenges – managing them being the biggest one. If broken down further – dry hair, frizz, following and surviving wash days, and application of multiple products are some of the dominant everyday trials they go through. Curlvana is the call of freedom and embracing as well as carrying your curls unapologetically! Be proud, bold, quirky, and your natural self with your curls.”

I like their ethos and appreciate their empathy towards the curly hair community which has been neglected by haircare companies for many years. The brand formulates CG-approved products in India. Their range consists of 5 products, and they are planning to expand their line. What special about them? Curlvana is India’s first glycerine-free hair care brand that claims to control frizz in all weather conditions. They are eco-friendly, cruelty-free, dermatologically tested, and don’t use harsh chemicals like sulfates, phthalates, parabens, and artificial fragrances in their formulas.

Curlavana’s Ultimate Kit Review

Comprising of 5 products Curlvana’s ultimate kit has everything you need to create your Indian curly hair routine. These products are dedicatedly formulated to control frizz in curly, wavy, and coiled hair. Plus, they work across different hair porosity levels, making it easier to select the right products for CGM novices. Let’s find out what I think about their products:

Curlvana Fortifying Curl Cleanse: The curlvana shampoo comes in a tube packaging of 200ml.It is priced at Rs 599.  The design of the whole range is fun and quirky, just like the brand. Honestly, I appreciate hair products that come in a pump packaging, making it easier to use, but I don’t mind the tube either. The actual shampoo is lightweight in texture and feels super smooth. It doesn’t lather much and that is because it doesn’t contain sulfates. The prime ingredients used here are Jamaican Black Castor Oil, Fermented Rice Water Extracts, and Plant Protein. In my experience, this shampoo isn’t as drying as the ones I have used in the past. It does a decent job of cleaning scalp buildup and refreshes the hair. It also strengthens the hair to a certain extent as I saw less hair breakage after about 4 weeks of use.

Curlvana Curl Shine Gentle Conditioner: Conditioning is a crucial step for maintaining curly hair. I religiously apply Curlvana’s conditioner every time I shampoo my hair because it gives me the softest, smoothest hair. I have also used it as a co-wash and it works great. Certain conditioners tend to weigh the hair down, but that is not the case with this one. My hair feels revived and the curls come back to life every time I use this product. Just like the shampoo, Curlvana’s conditioner also comes in a 200ml tube and costs Rs 599.

Curlvana Deep Nourish Double Cream Hair Mask: My hair loves a good hair mask. Back in the day when coconut oil was my only saviour, I remember my hair being super soft and nourished every time I washed it. I apply the same thought to Curlvana’s hair mask as well. I use it as a pre-shampoo and post-shampoo treatment on days my curls feel extra dry. It doesn’t wear my hair down and adds bounce to my otherwise lackluster curls. I’ve noticed a reduction in frizz, even during peak summers when the humidity is crazy. The mask, like the rest of the products, comes in a 200ml tube and is priced at Rs 749.

Curlvana Styling leave-in cream: Curly hair can be a little high-maintenance, but if you style it right, it will be absolutely worth the effort. Curlvana’s leave-in cream is one of the best I have used. It is spread easily across the hair, nourishing it without leaving any sticky residue. My hair feels really flamboyant and glossy every time I use this product and I feel like a movie star. Plus, the compliments I get on my hair reiterate my feelings. Priced at Rs 749, it comes in a 200ml tube.

Curlvana-Defining Styling Gel: The regular hair gels available in the market is not meant for curly hair because they contain alcohol that dries out the tresses. Curlvana’s hair gel contains flaxseed which is a moisturizing agent but provides a soft hold for long-lasting curls. This gel helps in defining the curls and keeping them in place for longer so that you don’t have to worry about styling your hair every day. This clear gel comes in a brightly coloured red tube of 200 ml and costs Rs 699.

My final thoughts on the Curlvana range

There are very few good products for Indian curly hair in the market. While many brands claim to use CG-friendly ingredients, they end up using glycerine and alcohol, all of which are detrimental to the health of curly hair. Curlvana is a brand that seems to have done all its homework, to come up with effective products for curly hair. They have put in a lot of research into formulating this range and that shows because I cannot complain about even one of their products. Sure I have my favorites, but there is very little critiquing that I can do for them. I am very satisfied with my experience, and would highly recommend this Indian brand for curly hair.

  1. I have used these products and liked a lot. Though even in curly hair, we have a huge variation but this range is quite nice for Indian hair.
