Meet my guest for today- Jayanti Kathale, a software engineer-turned-restaurant owner and the proud founder of “Purnabramha”, a chain of vegetarian restaurants specializing in authentic Maharashtrian cuisine, not just in India, but has branches all over the world.
“Allow your passion to become your purpose, and it will one day become your profession”.
These words are perfectly suitable for our guest. Let me take you on a journey, or should I say quest of a mother who quits her high-paying job for the sake of her dream. Dream or a promise that she had made to herself. Promise to take Maharashtrian cuisine across the globe and feed people those Maharashtrian delicacies she grew up enjoying. With her sheer grit and passion, she built a global empire, which is her inspiring story.
During our conversation, Jayanti mentioned that she is making efforts to reduce food wastage by giving 5% discount to people with no leftover on the plate and 2% charge to people who leave food on their plate. Isn’t that amazing?

“When you are in Rome, behave like a Roman”
Following this notion, Jayanti proudly wears Navvari Sari (9-yards saree worn in Maharashtra). According to her, when she was into IT, she was wearing skirts and western attire. So, now when she is representing Maharashtra, then it should start from the clothing. That’s why Navvari.
“We don’t need woman empowerment. Empowerment should be of the mindset.”
Just because we are women, we should not expect any sympathy or any special treatment. Women are capable of doing almost everything that men can do. Then why this expectation or discrimination? Once women start to empower themselves, discover their talents, and trust their capabilities, we will not need words like women empowerment.
In the whole journey facing uncounted problems, her biggest strength was her husband and family, who supported her in all ways.
