H : Home. We have created a home away from home. That’s our sweet home

What is the definition of a home? A place where your near and dear ones live. A place where your family resides. Correct? Today, people move out of their cities due to work. Sometimes we have to move out of the country too. Initial days are hard, challenging, and occasionally depressing also. It is common, and it is natural. But we want to learn to let that feeling go away as quickly as possible. That’s when our family comes into the picture. That’s when our family joins us in happiness. I am not talking about your family back home. I am talking about those people who become a part of your life outside your family. I am talking about that family with whom you feel happy; you want to share your happiness; you want to share your feelings; who are there for you, or when you need a shoulder; when you need someone to assure you that don’t worry everything will be fine.

When we start living abroad, we need people who talk our language, who think in our way, and who understand what we want to say or what we are going through. Just like us, they have also come miles away from their family, so they completely understand how we think. They know how we feel when we need our family members to be with us and share the moment with us, but unfortunately, we can’t have them. The family that we make here becomes a part of those occasions. Our kids understand the importance of having a home away from home. We meet at festivals, celebrate together, watch out for each other, support them when they need our help. And yes, we do exchange dishes as well. Well, this happens with very close friends only. Many think that things are very formal here, but it’s not always like that. That’s why I said, when we are comfortable with someone at a level when we feel that they are our family, then only the next steps happen. After all, we build our home, and it cannot be possible without the informality.

No matters, where you live, we have to create our own family there. And this is our second family. When living abroad, this feeling is stronger as we don’t get to meet our family every year. There are many who make frequent India trips. But most of us meet their family once in two or three years. My last India trip was in 2017. I have not attended any Indian wedding in last 13 years, nor did I celebrate any festival in India in 13 years with my family back home. But the home that we have created away from our home is giving us that warmth and love until we meet our home back home..:)
