The holiday season calls for some baking recipes. Cold weather, blanket, hot cocoa, and home-baked items set the perfect mood for enjoying winter. Coupled with an excellent movie and you are good to go. I am a big lover of home-baked cakes, and I bake them regularly. But cookies are something that I have never made from scratch. There is no specific reason for that, but I just didn’t. Since it was too cold to go out and I was looking for something to keep my five-year-old son busy, I thought of baking some cookies. How about Chocolate Chip Cookies? And the little chef gave a green signal instantly. Now, what’s unique in these cookies? From the title, you must have got the idea that these are whole wheat chocolate chip cookies. They were so easy to make and taste delicious.

The little chef wanted to keep it a surprise for his dad and big sister. But his helper was waiting to click some pictures for posting on her blog. He was kind enough to let her do that. Credit for this recipe goes to the chef’s friend’s mom. We made a few changes. The original recipe didn’t have cocoa powder, but we added some and increased the sugar by two tablespoons. So, let me share the recipe for Whole wheat chocolate chip cookies.

Whole wheat chocolate chip cookies

You will need:

  1. Whole wheat flour: 1-1/2 cups

2. Sugar: 1/4th cup + 2 tablespoons

3. Unsalted butter: ½ cup

4. Egg: 1

5. Cocoa powder: ½ teaspoon

6. Chocolate chip cookies: ½ cup

7. Baking soda: ½ teaspoon

8. Salt: ½ teaspoon (if using unsalted butter)

9. Vanilla essence: 1 teaspoon

Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Lightly grease (or line with parchment) two baking sheets.
  2. In a large bowl, beat together butter and sugar until creamy.
  3. Beat in egg and vanilla essence to it.
  4. Measure the flour by gently spooning it into a cup, then sweeping off any excess.
  5. Then stir the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix it nicely.
  6. Now add chocolate chips and Give it a final mix.
  7. Scoop it on the baking sheet and bake or make balls with your hands and place them on the baking sheet.
  8. Bake them for 18 minutes.
  9. Whole wheat chocolate chip cookies are ready.

Note:

If you want chocolate chips in every bite, you can increase chocolate chips. But ½ cup felt enough to me.
