Festival season put us into celebration mode. Celebration means relaxation. We enjoy sweets, fried food etc. And in this, our fitness routine goes on the back burner. Recently we have celebrated Diwali. But the festive season hasn’t been over yet. Our eating habits have already gone off track, but we cannot wait for the festive season to get through and then get back on our fitness routine. Let us begin today. This will prepare us for the subsequent two celebrations.
Here are 8 ways:
- Start with basics
- Eat smart
- Control sugar and fried food
- Get your sleeping routine back on track
- Try something new
- Be sure to add a warm-up and cool down after each workout
- Be consistent
- Do it for yourself
Start with basics:
Plenty of people adopt an “all or nothing” attitude with fitness, but the truth is that every little bit counts. When getting back to your exercise routine, don’t try and push yourself too hard. Remember that your body has been on a break, so you might not be able to get back to where you were right away. Let’s start with small steps. Start with simple walks. Then slowly increase the intensity.

Eat smart:
You have enjoyed food to its fullest during festivities doesn’t mean that now you should start skipping meals. On the contrary, starving yourself only makes you more prone to binge eating. Eating your meals on time and stop when you feel full. We tend to overeat, thinking we are very hungry, but we should always leave some space. Have a day to detox your system. Enjoy Khichdi at least once a week. Khichdi is a wholesome meal. You can keep the lentil portion more than the rice and add a few vegetables. Give tempering in Ghee. Please don’t think that Ghee will increase your weight. In fact, it helps to control weight.

Control sugar and fried food:
We have had enough sweets and fried food during Diwali. Now we should control it. If you are in the habit of having dessert after meals, then start with this change. You can substitute it with something healthy. Similarly, avoid oily food for a few weeks.
Get your sleeping routine back on track:
With festivities comes late-night parties and an exhaustive routine. So, try to get your sleep routine on track. Make sure to go to bed early and get at least seven hours of sleep. Enough sleep will give you more energy to be active during the day and do your daily exercise as well.
Try something new:
Sometimes, trying something new can be motivating to revive your exercising routine. There is an excitement and a feel-good factor.
Be sure to add warm-up and cool-down after each workout:
Your muscles will be a little tight or achy for 24 to 72 hours after your workout. As a result, we tend to skip our workouts.
Be consistent:
Whenever we want any changes in our routine, we need to be consistent.
Do it for yourself:
After the festive season is over, many workout videos start to float all over social media. They promise you to get your desired weight through some challenges. But try to understand that everybody’s body type is different. So whatever you decide to start with, be confident about it. Please do it for yourself. Be happy about it and celebrate because this feeling will motivate you to continue.
So, keeping things basic to start if you’ve taken a short break should be the first step. Then, I am sure soon you will get back to your fitness routine.
