Eight Tips for Remaining Calm No Matter What

Why some people always look so calm and composed as if everything is just perfect in their lives. We often think don’t they have any tensions? Staying calm isn’t always easy. But many times, these people also go through the same days as you. The difference is that they have learned the art of staying calm or should I say they have cultivated the practice of staying calm.

As a parent, we encounter several situations when we lose our sanity. I am not an exception to this. The reason I am writing these eight tips for remaining calm is because I have tried them myself and they do help. So, here you go…

Eight Tips for Remaining Calm No Matter What

  • Make a deliberate effort to create calm in your life: It’s not easy I know but nothing is easy. We have to make an effort. Once you have decided, then don’t back off.

  • Take time for yourself everyday: To stay sane, allow 15-30 minutes of alone time every day. Anything that gives you the relaxing time is your time. Allow the stress to slip off your shoulders and savor some relaxing moments.

  • Learn to process your emotions: We tell our kids to stay calm, give yourself some time. We can practice the same thing. When we are upset with someone or about something, give yourself time to recognize and accept the way we feel. No one is saying to bury your emotion. But you don’t want them to explode at a wrong place or on a wrong person. Once your mind is calmer, you can talk about it to a family member or a friend or if possible to the concerned person.

  • Practice gratitude: I know it is the hard thing to do. But there is always something to be grateful for. Write down five simple things you are grateful for and see the magic.

  • Savor moments of joy: This is an extension to the previous one. Once we learn to look around and find things we are grateful for, we become more aware of the moments of joy that surrounds us. Initially, it might look like a deliberate effort or an exercise but once we start nurturing these moments, it will become our second nature.

  • Listen to your body: Nowadays, we have made ourselves so occupied that we don’t realize the importance of downtime. Just like small kids who get cranky when their body and mind are tired, we also need rest. I still need to practice this. A relaxed body helps the mind and emotions calm down.

  • Breathe consciously: Take three deep breaths. Breathing is the cornerstone of remaining calm and relaxed. Why do we feel so relaxed after meditation? It’s because our mind and body get connected during meditation. Breathing is the simplest exercise to connect the two.

  • Listen to some soothing music: Music has the power to relax your body, mind, heart, and soul.

We all want to live peacefully, experiencing love in abundance. But nowadays we condition our life in a different way and that creates tensions and chaos.
