Love Oreos? Want to make something special for your kids or for any special occasions? The base of today’s recipe is Oreo. Last week my daughter turned 12. And she had declared way well in advance that she doesn’t want a cake this year. Oreo Truffles was on her list instead of a cake. I was a little apprehensive as I had never made Oreo Truffles, but they weren’t tough. I should thank her for letting me try a new dessert. I think, after things get normal and we start to socialize, I will be making these yummy truffles for kid’s party.
So, let me share this easy recipe so that you can also make them and see that big smile on your kiddo’s faces. This is a great make-ahead treat, a perfect gift options for Diwali parties or kids’ birthday parties or potlucks. Or maybe for Father’s Day. The mixing and rolling parts are straight forward but the only delicate part is the chocolate coating. You can involve your kids in making this dessert. So, let’s begin.
You will need:
Makes 15 Oreo Truffles
- Oreo cookies: 24
- Cream Cheese: 4 oz (at room temperature)
- Chocolate (your choice – white or milk or both)
- Sprinkles
Let’s begin:
- In a food processor, first, crush the oreo cookies. Once you get a powder, add cream cheese and again start pulsing.
- You will see the cookies powder and cream cheese will start to form a ball.
- Transfer the mixture to a bowl and put it in the fridge for 15 minutes.
- After 15 minutes, scoop out the mixture and start to roll them into small balls.
- Arrange them on a cookie tray. Put it in the fridge for 10-15 minutes. In the meantime, melt the chocolates.
- Take the tray out. Keep the melted chocolate bowl, a clean plate or dish, spoon, and a fork ready.
- Place one ball on the fork and pour the chocolate with the spoon to coat the ball. Gently transfer the coated oreo-cream cheese ball on the clean tray. Garnish it with sprinkles.
- Repeat the process to the rest of the balls.
- Refrigerate one hour or until firm.
- You can store these Oreo Truffles in an airtight jar in the fridge. Try to arrange them in a single layer.
- The Oreo balls will keep in the fridge for up to 3 weeks. You can also freeze the balls for up to 2 months. (if you successfully save them from your kids)
Notes: Substitute for Cream cheese
You can use butter or chocolate sauce + milk or even Nutella. Check out this youtube link for the Oreo truffle without cream cheese.
