Dear Daddy, you are the best... HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!!
Dear Daddy, you are the best…
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!!

“Someday I will find my Prince, but my Daddy will always be my King.” So true, so cute and so very innocent. Isn’t? I came across this beautiful quote while exploring the greeting cards section in my local store. This year Father’s Day is on June 15th i.e the 3rd Sunday of the month. I was curious to know little bit more about Father’s Day and I found something interesting here.

‘A woman called Sonora Smart Dodd was an influential figure in the establishment of Father’s Day. Her father raised six children by himself after the death of their mother. This was uncommon at that time, as many widowers placed their children in the care of others or quickly married again.

Sonora was inspired by the work of Anna Jarvis, who had pushed for Mother’s Day celebrations. Sonora felt that her father deserved recognition for what he had done. The first time Father’s Day was held in June was in 1910. Father’s Day was officially recognized as a holiday in 1972 by President Nixon.’

Ok, so after knowing all this, why not to plan for it? School beak has already started, so this can be a great project for the kids to do. Let’s make a Father’s Day card.

This card reminded me of my daughter’s pre-school days. It was Father’s Day week and I took a craft class of the 4 years old kids. The Director gave me an idea than the class is super-energetic so I was kind of prepared to take up this challenge. I made all the preparations, labeled the individual bags of each kid with their names. Put papers, ribbons etc. When I entered their class, the teacher introduced me and said – “It’s going to be fun, she is going to teach you something interesting”. Fun and Teach doesn’t sounds that interesting together…right. Yes, the kids were in a dilemma. Later, when I said “We are going to make a greeting card together, even I have to send one to my Dad. I need your help & suggestions.”  Then slowly, I saw some cute smiles coming on my way. They were very excited to use all the card material. It was there first time making a proper greeting card and using all the grown-up stuff ; marker, adhesive, stamps, ink pad, pop-ups etc. Our stamp says ‘You Are the Best Dad Ever’ (I have use the same stamp for today’s card). All the kids were so cute and super curious. Few of them told me stories, some asked me about the necklace I was wearing. Within few minutes, I became their friend and they started making the card with interest. One of the boys who came last, didn’t want to make card, he just wanted to sit. After, sometime he himself said that he is ready. But now, this kiddo was not ready to use the stamp. Reason? He said “I am not a Dad, then why should I use it..?:) “Somehow, I convinced him. When this last kid stepped outside the room, I took a deep breath. Altogether it was a wonderful experience. I still remember, it was Wednesday. I wrote one article on it in Marathi, my mother tongue, for my old blog I used to maintain.
