We all like new look of our house. But home improvement can become a costly project. Considering the last year’s job market, spending extra money on changing the interiors of our house can be an issue for many. Nevertheless, our house is our heaven, and with the upcoming holiday season, we wish to have a fresh home décor.
I like to do DIYs. And whenever I get time, I indulge myself in any project. I have shared two of those in my Instagram reels. Luckily our house is blessed with plenty of sunlight. That itself makes the room bright. But to give my personal touches, I made a few wall décor items. In this post, let me share a few of my budget-friendly home improvement ideas with you. You can mix these ideas with your existing décor, move some frames from one room to another, and repurpose old frames. And there you have it—a completely new look. So, let’s get started.
10 affordable home improvement ideas for the holiday season
Budhha Painting:
Having a Budhha statue can bring calmness to any corner of your house. I got this golden-colored buddha as a gift. At present, I have a Bamboo next to it, but I keep switching it with Money plant. I am looking for an artificial Bonsai. The wall behind this statue has all our family photos, but you can also decorate it with simple paintings or wall decals.
I also made two paintings. One Buddha painting and the other one has a saying of the buddha. I am planning to hang it on my entry wall. It is sure to give positive vibes to my guests.

Decoupage wooden tray:
I had a plain wooden tray. I wanted something to put on the center table and use it for multiple purposes as a TV remote holder or a centerpiece with some plant or flowers. This is how I made it:
Measure the inside of the tray and cut a fabric piece of your choice. Apply mod podge inside the tray and lay the piece. Remove any creases. Use a credit card to give a uniform look. Apply a layer of mod podge over the fabric. This will act as a sealant and varnish. Let it dry completely. You can decorate with your choice of showpiece. Currently, I have a small money plant and laughing buddha. On Diwali, I will add a few lamps, bells, and candles to it.
Embroidery hoops frames:
This one I wanted to do for a long time. For this project, you have plenty of options. You can use any of the old fabrics or embroidered jackets/Indian koti/ dupatta/ saree . You can also use plain fabric and draw a simple design. Then, add some tussles to it. If you like, you can also paint the hoops in different colors. I preferred to keep the natural color. I have a few mirrors and frames. I think mix-matching them will give a nice look.
Flower (glass) vases:
Fill the glass vases with pumpkins (for thanksgiving/fall season) and ornaments (for Christmas). Arrange them at different heights. This is a centerpiece for your table or foyer area.
Apply an odd number rule:
Usually, when you are planning to decorate a table or shelf, don’t fill the entire shelf. Instead, use three objects of different heights on one side, follow the same on the other side, and keep one principal thing in the center or leave it blank. If you are using flowers, then sometimes using one single stick also looks good. At our dentist’s office, they have a big glass jar, and in that, there is only one bush. It looks so elegant.
Few other ideas:
Candles: You can do candle art or decorate them with beaded lace or crystals.
Wooden spoons: You can paint them with your choice of design. I decided to go with simple dots in bright colors. They are the perfect decor for my kitchen wall.
Repurpose old sarees: You can make pretty cushion covers and table runners. They will instantly give a festive look. You can do the same with table napkins as table runners.
