We keep on telling our kids about inter-personal skills, sincerity, positive attitude and focus. When they get little old and ready to decide about their career path, there are a few other qualities that we want them to know. Surprisingly, these qualities are important not just for freshers but it is for everyone. Do you want to be successful and accomplished in your career or life in general? • Ambition: This comes on the top. Ambitious people see themselves capable of doing their best and being best in whatever they do.

  • Courage: Many times, people don’t have the courage to take steps towards their career path. The fear of failure is something that comes in the way. But accepting that failure is a part of success is key to keep on the track.

  • Commitment: When you are committed to your work, you will have the determination to achieve what you want and you will keep trying to reach that goal.

  • Passion and Will-power: If you are passionate about your field and interest then you are most likely to work hard. Those who have great willpower can focus and strive for their passion.

  • Patience: Patience is very important in any career. Understanding that things will take time and in spite of all the efforts, you may not get the desired results quickly and easily. Not losing the focus and the drive is very important.

  • Sincerity and Self-Discipline: Both these elements go hand in hand.  Putting your sincere efforts in the chosen career is must along with self-discipline. When there is no-one to tell you what to do or keep a check on you, that time self-discipline plays a very big role in keeping you on track.

  • Optimism/Confidence: I would call optimism as an extension of confidence. Having confidence in yourself and being optimistic can really help you because you will believe those good things can happen. You would expect positive outcomes to come from your journey to success.

  • Consistency: Once you start achieving desired results then you have to have consistency in maintaining that. You need to stick to schedules, keep setting goals for yourself, challenge yourself.

  • Being a team player: Not everyone can be a good team player but those who understand that it is not necessary that your suggestions will be accepted all the time can be a good addition to a team. As a team player, you have to keep your personal differences, egos aside and work towards the common goal.

  • Gratitude: We often forget to thank those people who have helped us in the beginning f our career. So, when we become successful, we should never forget those who have helped us along the way. Also, each job teaches us some lesson. Our first job gives us a feel of a job environment, how to deal with managers, co-workers, and subordinates. We usually forget our first job profile but it has to be treasured as that where our career has started.

Being successful in your career is a process It’s a journey and each role, every job teaches us something valuable. We should treat each job with full respect and try to improve ourselves continuously. Today the graduate recruitment market is more competitive than ever. Fresh graduates want to get a job that can be a perfect fit for their skills, interest and career dreams. Many are dreaming to get into consulting business. But as I said, there are many factors that contribute to the success story.
