When Bollywood vibes are in the air. “BollyTalkies” is the book you should read

Raise your hand if you like Bollywood movies. Raise your hand if you feel a connection seeing your favorite movie stars in a particular role. Be it, Sridevi, from English Winglish or Rekha from Umrao Jaan or Vidya Balan from Hamari Sullu, Bollywood characters have always struck a chord in us. We feel so much connected to the roles they play that we start to relate them to those roles.  “Ab Raj ko hi le lijiye. Shahrukh Khaan ki baat kar rahi hu. (Take for example Raj. I am talking about Shahrukh Khan).” While listening to any of the songs from the movie DDLJ, don’t tell me that you have never gotten lost in your thoughts thinking of his deep brown eyes. Well, that’s the magic of Bollywood.

Today, I am going to take you into the world of Bollymovies. And not just the movies, but you will get to meet your favorite characters. Meet the author of this book – Archana Srivastava, blogger at archusblog.com. This is her debut book in which she has picked 22 movies. She has touched a different angle by understanding the characters rather than just focusing on the movie and its storyline.  Let’s talk more about her book in this post.

bollytalkies - book review

Title: BollyTalkies ABC’s of Bollywood

Author: Archana Srivastava

Genre: Non-fiction/Entertainment

Pages: 59

Format: Ebook (available on- Blogchatter website)

About the book:

BollyTalkies is for Bollywood lovers! It is all about the famous movies/characters of Bollywood, along with opinions and facts on the featured films. These movies have imprinted their mark in society. Bolly Talkies (ABCs of Bollywood) will surely win over a keen lover of cinema.

My thoughts on this book:

Without any doubt, BollyTalkies is a fun and exciting read. Each chapter is a new movie. We all have some favorite actors/actresses. I would say there is something for everyone in this book. Watching every movie and absorbing it along with the characters and what they want to convey to the society through the story and acting is not easy. Not just the lead characters, but this book also puts light on the “third wheel characters” who stole the limelight from the main heroes of some movies. Archana has done equal justice in describing the side roles too. Concluding chapters titled Xtra dose of laughter and Yester Year’s Actors, King of romance, and Friendship  were icing on the cake.

I must say Archana has done an excellent job of bringing those characters into our lives. The language is natural and catchy. She likes to watch movies, and that is quite evident from the theme of her debut book. The chapters from this book were originally published on her blog for the A2Z2020 challenge.

My Rating:

Putting together a book is a big task and it itself is an accomplishment. But there is always a room for improvements. I would give it 4/5. Talking about Bollywood movies, I was looking for some images in the chapters. Other than this one thing, it was a fun read. You can download your copy here.

My final words to the author and about the book:

Archana, congratulations for coming up with such an engaging and interesting theme for your debut book. I thoroughly loved it.  I know it must have been very tiring to think about the movies from the writing perspective and then putting together it in the form of a book. You have done a fantastic job. Wishing you lots and lots of success in your writing journey.

Now, let’s see what the author has to say about her experience:

A2Z challenge was no less than a roller coaster ride for me. At many points my daily schedule compelled me to give up in midway. Still my determination does not allow me to quit before the finish line. Eventually I successfully managed to survive till the end.

My most important learning in all the process is that *fail attempt gives better sleep than the quit* and all comes when you opt to attempt whether its success or fail at least you tried so it’s totally up to you what you want end of the day!

Hope you have enjoyed the review.  I will be back with another book review. Stay tuned!!
