We have 24 Hours. Let’s Make the best of it

One day is equal to 24 hours. We all know that but we tend to forget that in those 24 hours, our life can take a U-turn. We often say “Aaj ka to pata nahi, kal ka kya poochte ho (when I don’t know about today, why are you asking about tomorrow)”. It is absolutely true. So, when we know that, why can’t we make the best out of the 24 hours and without wasting time in arguing and fighting?

how to make the best out of 24 hours

Let’s see how Mr. Sharma’s 24 hours look like?

Scene 1: Puru took the first sip of his morning tea. “Is this what you call morning tai? There is so less sugar almost no sugar I should say. When will you learn how to make a good tea?” He started off. Disha didn’t say anything. These were his everyday words. Today, tea was slightly bland but not that Puru can’t drink it. In these many years, she had gotten used to of it. Puru was waiting for her to say something. As she got up with her cup she asked Puru if she should add more sugar to it. “No please don’t, I will drink as it is. There is no use of adding it now. All the crystals will keep on floating on the top. Morning tea is morning tea.” He kept on talking. Disha was listening to all this while finishing her work. When he didn’t stop, then she said “Puru, it’s enough. It wasn’t a big deal and I asked you for sugar. Why are you dragging it so much?” This was their everyday ritual. After that Puru went inside to get ready for work while Disha started working on their breakfast. She was muttering to herself. That used to be her vent.

Scene 2: Puru was having breakfast when his daughter came in. “Dad, are you free? I want to ask you something.”

“Yes, what happened?” Puru asked while reading the newspaper.

“Dad, I need Rs.5000 for buying a new dress for my Annual Function. This is my last year at college and this will be my last Annual Day. Please Dad.” she tried to convince him.

“You said last year. Right? That means, last Annual Day. Hmm….Then no need to go. Prepare for your exams at home.” Puru ruled out any possibility for giving her money. He got back to his newspaper reading and his daughter left for her college.

“Disha I am leaving. I will be going to doctor today so I will be late.” Puru informed her but not even bothered to check if she had listened or not.

Scene 3: In the elevator, Puru meets his neighbor who recently bought a new car. He offers Puru some sweets. “Mr. Sharma, I bought a new car and this sweet is for that.”

“Yes, I saw that,” Puru said with a weird expression.

“You did?” neighbor felt good that Puru at least noticed his car.

“Yes, How can I miss that? Your car is taking up half of my parking space.”Puru said this even without congratulating his and got off the elevator.

By now you must have known Puru quite well. Now let’s see what happened next…

Scene 4: Puru is at the doctor’s clinic.

“Doctor, why I am having these headaches these days? What do my tests say?

“Puru, you are having a brain tumor and you don’t have many days left.” The Doctor told Puru.

With a heavy heart, Puru walked out of the doctor’s office. While driving back, he kept on thinking about his wife, daughter, his neighbor. The first person he met was his neighbor. In a low voice, he said, “sorry I forgot to congratulate you in the morning for your new car. White color looks very nice.” This change of behavior surprised his neighbor.

Puru came home around evening tea. Without saying anything he made tea for everyone and asked his family to sit with him and he started telling about his report. Puru said, “Disha, sometimes tea without less sugar also tastes good.”

“Is it okay if I give you Rs.3000 instead of Rs.5000 for your dress? It’s your last annual function. These days won’t come back.” He gave his daughter a packet.

Now, he turned to his son. “You always wanted to drive my car and I never gave you the permission. Take these keys. It’s yours now. Now you have to take charge of this family.” Puru was a changed person today.

Now what do you think about Puru? Have you started to feel sympathy for him? Hold on..there is more..

Next morning, his son heard some loud voice as before. It was Puru’s. He came out and saw his dad talking on the phone. His mom and sister were laughing standing there.

“What happened? Who is he getting mad at in the morning?” He asked looking at his dad.

“It’s the doctor. He just called to apologize. By mistake, your dad’s reports got exchanged with other Mr. Sharma. Your dad is having a simple Migraine and not a Brain Tumor.” Disha told him about the call and he also joined the laughing team while Puru got back to his routine dialogues. Suddenly, tasty tea started tasting bland, he took the car keys back from his son, lowered down the budget for his daughter’s dress.

So, friends 24 hours can change anyone’s life. If we have only 24 hours in one day, why not to spend them happily. Life is too short to argue and fight. Count your blessings, value your loved ones and stay blessed!!
