So far, we have discussed the true meaning of yoga, basics of yoga, and common mistakes beginners make when they start yoga. This topic is very vast and there are various branches to it. But this project idea is about bringing the awareness about this ancient practice of creating harmony between inner self to outer self.
In this post – “Yogi – are you a yogi?”, let’s talk about something interesting. This is the fourth and last post of my Blogchatter Project season 2: “Yoga-Not Just an Exercise”.
What do you think of when you hear the term yogi? The term yogi has many connotations. Most of us think a true yogi is someone who could perfect all the yoga poses, who can meditate. To put in simple words then someone who has a control over his/her emotions, who can focus well, who has passed the stage where we lose our patience and sanity while dealing with complex situations. Obviously, someone who has been practicing Yoga for a long-time, fit perfectly in this definition. But according to me, there are so many other people who do not practice Yoga but still, they can be called a Yogi. A baby is a classic example. Yes, a baby? How? Just think for a minute. When you see a baby what do you see? A cute face, innocent eyes, killing smile. Isn’t? Now let’s think beyond the looks. A clarity in what they want, ability to make others happy and calm just by seeing their face, being happy in any state, living in present not worrying about future, not giving up. Don’t you think we can learn a lot from a baby?
Another example can be our parents or a painter or a writer or a chef or anyone who is doing their job with full concentration and enjoying it. For all these people, irrespective of their chosen field of endeavors, their work is their passion. For parents, their kids are everything. They have only unconditional love towards them, they never think anything negative about them. They give their best to their role. Same applies to all the other people. They find happiness when they are engrossed in their passion and because of this happiness and satisfaction they look calm. When they talk to us, we can feel the calmness.
A yogi has mastered the art of focusing the mind and connecting it to its soul which ultimately brings happiness and peace. All these above people have found their calling and they have mastered the art of focusing their mind on their calling. This discussion brings us back us back to our starting point basics of yoga. The true purpose of yoga is to attain the state of happiness, calmness, and peace and training our mind to stay in that state. Yogi is doing the same thing, and that’s the reason why we see them as different than us. We all have the capability to find that connection. What we need is to find our purpose and working towards it.
This concludes the blog chatter project season 2.
