There is a famous Marathi phrase “dhoodha varchi saay” which is mostly used to describe the relationship between grand parents and their grand kids where grand kids is the cream. When this ocean of love meets their cream of life, that scene; that moment is spectacular. The joy, pride, love that we see in their relationship/bond is always special.
Right now I am in India. And my daughter is enjoying every second of her day with her grand parents which gave me today’s topic to write on. The urge to meet each other was equal on both the sides. Irrespstive of the heat, she is having a blast creating lots of memories that are making her India stay even more magical. There are lots of factors that have contributed for this positive attitude of hers. I don’t want to brag about it but as a mother, I am really proud of my little girl and her openness in accepting the changes in the surroundings, daily routine etc. The very first thing is the comfort level in talking our Mother tongue. It’s not compulsory that she has to talk in Marathi with them but knowing Marathi is definitely adding that extra personal touch and closeness that is the base for any grand parent-grand kid relationship. Secondly, little bit of preparation in terms of small day-to-day stuff. But the most important part among all this is the strong bond she is creating each day with her grand parents. I grew up in a joint family and I know the importance of having their loving & supporting presence. It is not possible now a days. Most of us live in nuclear family set up. The only thing we can do to make their relation even more special is by surrendering them to these loving hands as long as we are with them. Giving them opportunities to spend some quality time one-on-one. Let them make their own cute conversation.
I came across this beautiful poem which..
“Grandparents Special Kind of Love
There’s a special kind of love that grandchildren have for their grandparents.
It’s filled with respect for their wisdom and accomplishments..
with gratitude for the values they’ve given us…
with delight in the stories of our family and they remember and share.
It’s a special kind of love that’s build on a lifetime of caring and giving.
It’s the kind of love that’s felt for you. Grandma and Grandpa..today and always..”
This vast ocean of love is so deep and pure and so much to give. They always see their reflection in the clear water of their grand kid’s eyes. They are an open school of knowledge where the only rule is to give unconditional love and take love. When the ocean of love meets their cream of their life, the love-affection-warmth just continues spreading in the surrounding making it even more special, memorable and so very perfect….
Oh, now you made me cry! I adored my paternal grandmother. She passed 19 years ago and I still miss her like crazy. Last year I became a grandma for the first time. Now I know what it feels like from the other side. My little Baby Girl is the best kid in the world! I just love your phrase!
