My India trip – ‘Fun at India’

I concluded my previous post with one of my little girl’s questions. Let me tell you what all we did during our stay which started with questions & ended with fun. So, I will call this post ‘My India trip – Fun at India’.

Now, when we were done with Jet Lag & were back to our normal routine she was ready with her new series of questions. Meeting a new face each day was little too much for her but she handled it nicely. She had lots of questions in her mind. Everything was new and fascinating for her, to mention some of them were Horns of Motor Bikes, people riding on Bicycles, Street dogs. One evening during our routine evening stroll, she saw a motor bike coming towards her direction and she held me tightly with her eyes closed. But within few days, she got used of that. Then she would close her eyes and smile as if she is enjoying the spring breeze.:) Same with bicycles, she asked me “they are grown-ups, so why are they riding on bikes? Do their bicycles have Mickey Mouse horn..:))?” But later she understood that this is also one of the modes of transport not only for kids but also for grown-ups.

Her series of questions or to put it correctly her curiosity got new shades with the festival of Holi. I love colors but I am not very much fond of Holi. Being from Kanpur,Uttar Pradesh where Holi has its own significance, people celebrate this festival with excitement. One kiddo sprayed some color on my little girl when we were going to one of our family friend’s place which was hardly 10 steps from our place. Earlier she didn’t say anything because she actually didn’t realize what happened in just few seconds but when saw the color on her t-shirt she got kind of upset. She asked me “why that boy sprayed color on me?, my t-shirt is all wet.” I explained her that it’s the festival of colors. Luckily, she heard these words before as I had a wonderful chance to give a presentation on Indian Culture at a non-profit group where I volunteer before leaving for India. So, she was aware of the festivals. Immediately, she also added few lines from her side when she recalled these words. I got a relief.

Among many wonderful things she learned during her India stay, one was Jana Gana Mana (the national anthem of India) for which I am truly very happy. My dad taught her this. And then she practiced it with my dad. I don’t even remember how many times. In this she got a wonderful company of my niece (no need to mention that they compelled him to do that) . It was their all-time favorite song. Anyone can easily guess that she has learned it recently.  Also, she started her Hindi writing practice which was again in my “To Do” list. She made new friends, had few play dates. For her the best part of these play dates was – instead of me calling her friends, she herself invited them to our place. One should see the happiness into her eyes. She got to see Peacock coming in our backyard. This was her first time seeing Peacock from this close. She learned about Taj Mahal.

When the day came for our departure, she asked me – “would I be able to see my friends again?” Last time when we visited India she was just 15 months old. This time she was more observant, curious.

After coming back, she was definitely missing her friends but now she is back to her normal routine. That’s the best thing about kids…they are much more practical where we grown-ups sometimes fail. I would say they are an ideal example of what we say live in present; don’t look into your past.

So, this was about my India trip and all the fun we had during our stay. Young kid are very curious & they have lots of questions especially when they are living far from their country but at the same time they know how to enjoy and have fun.

Now, it’s been more than 2 years I haven’t been to India but through this old post, I’ve re-collected all the memories. I hope you enjoyed reading about our India trip as much as I did writing and sharing it.

Have A Great Summer!!
