I strongly feel each day can be Mother’s day. If, for a mother, her children are her life then, their mother is the universe for the children. It is hard to express the love between a Mother and her child. And no matter whatever gift we give it to her, it will be small enough in front of the unconditional love she has for her children. Luckily, we have one day dedicated to Mothers, but lately, things have been very different. And it has affected all the celebrations. But still, these moments break the monotony and give our days a much-needed boost and energy. While some of us might be able to spend the day with our moms in person (the luckiest of all), many are adhering to social distancing or live far away (like me) from the special lady in their life. But of course, that doesn’t mean you just have to have a phone call or send an e-gift. When everything has gone virtual, why can’t we have a virtual Mother’s Day? It’s time to think different, think deep and think big.

Here I am suggesting a few Virtual Mother’s Day gifts that you can give your mother on this Mother’s Day. They may sound very basic but do we need something fancy to let our mom know her importance in our lives? Anything simple done with a pure heart is priceless. These gifts will not be confined to just one day, but they can be with her for a longer time.

- Encourage her to take up her hobby
- Create a slideshow
- Capture the memories
- Send something special
Call Her Every Day
Now what’s so special in it? We all call our moms. But sometimes, some days go by without calling her. But ideally, we should call them every day. Asking her – ‘how is everything?’ Telling her ‘Here everything is fine. Take care’. This is also enough for her.
Hear Her Out, Don’t Rush To React
We all share a different kind of closeness to our mother. We are casual with her, and sometimes, we say things that we are not supposed to say. Of course, she is not in front of us, so we cannot see her expressions, but I am sure she might feel sad. So, promise yourself that no matters if you agree with what she is saying or not, you will not get upset with her.
Encourage Her to Take Up Her Hobby
For this, I admire my mom. After she took voluntary retirement in 2002, I have never seen her sitting ideal. She is always learning something, attending some online workshops, and volunteering and teaching kids (pre-corona days). Whenever I know something that I feel she will like, I share it with her. For example, recently, I shared my Ssss Stroke (flow of thoughts) practice which I have been doing for five months. I felt she would like it, and luckily, she also started it.
Create a Slideshow
We have many tools available which can make this job easy. Put together a slideshow collection of your favorite childhood photos and videos that your mom or mom figure is sure to appreciate. Add in some sentimental music, loving quotes, or voiceovers from other family members to make it even more personal.
Capture the Moments
No matter which virtual Mother’s Day celebration you choose, make sure to capture the moment by taking a screenshot or screen recording so you can cherish it for years to come. Take a screenshot of everyone’s smiling faces within the Zoom gallery view.
Send Something Special
How can this day be complete without sending her something special. Cake, flowers, or a gift that will convey your thoughts.

For me, talking to my mom is a everyday ritual and she is my best friend too. loved all the ideas you have shared here for celebrating mother’s day in recent situation. will send something special for her, thanks for giving me this idea with your post.
True. same here Surbhi.
Gosh so true. Giving our parents time is the best and most precious gift that we can ever give. We realize this mostly after we become parents ourselves though.
Absolutely Cindy.
So agree with u Alpana. We need not do anything fancy , a simple phone call and having a heart to heart talk with the parents would suffice.
Yes Milan.
Loved your virtual celebration and sending gift ideas. But the best of lal that I liked was to hear her out and not rush. Mostly we prefer to go to her with our problems. Atleast that’s what I do.
🙂 It so nice of you to be honest Seema. Yes, we do have to have patience while talking to her.
You are so right – Mother’s Day feels so strange in this changed environment. My mother is in a different city from me for the first time in years on this day, and I am quite sad… But we will make the most of it virtually!
I haven’t celebrated Mother’s Day with my Mom in last 15 years. So, I can understand how you must be feeling. But this gives us a special opportunity to make it special.
Beyond expensive gifts, every mother craves her child’s love and time. As kuch as we thought what we do is enough no mother could have enough of her child’s love.
Rightly said.
It’s been 6 years that I’m celebrating Mother’s Day with my mom virtually. She’s in heaven and I’m, well here. Speaking to her everyday and sharing little details was my favourite part.
The connection between a mom and daughter is special.
Lovely ideas. and i agree, getting your mom started off on a hobby is one of the best gifts you can give her, and yourself 🙂 especially, if its a crafty hobby 🙂
True that.
I feel that every day should be a mother’s day and agree with you that one phone call is must each day just to make her feel good. Great ideas to celebrate this special day with moms.
Thanks Ruchi
Oh, the first thing I saw was the date and it brought back so many memories. Mother’s Day is indeed beautiful and celebrating it virtually is a norm for people like us who stay miles away from our moms 🙂
Yes Kavita.
Mother’s Day holds a unique significance both as a daughter and as a mom. It’s the emotions, more than the gifts, that deepen this bond. While I call my mother daily, doing something special on that day brings her immense joy. I appreciate all of your ideas.
Well said!!
