Life is a tough pill. We have to swallow it even if we don’t like it. On daily basis, we consume regrets, sorrow, and failure that affect our mind. There are so many situations we cannot change, things are out of our control. We get frustrated, irritated, disheartened. We always think our problems are the complex and bigger than others but the truth is we all have problems. But what differentiates us is how we choose to carry it.
“It was a happy moment for their family. In a couple of hours, Mike was in his mother’s arms. But those looks on the doctor’s face, made them worried. Mike was born with some problem with his feet. When doctors saw that, they were unsure if he would be able to walk or not. But his mom didn’t lose hope and took him to another doctor for a second opinion. She came out with a smile from the doctor’s clinic. There were 50-50 chances that Mike would walk after a small surgery but he has to wait till he turns Two. Mike underwent surgery and was given custom-made shoes to wear that he was supposed to continue wearing for a good amount of time. Mike was just two years old, he couldn’t run or play like his age kids. Finally, after completing the full term of the shoes, doctors freed him from the shoes. But even after this, there was a slight difficulty that he was facing. Life wasn’t very easy for him. His legs used to get tired with fast walking or jumping. Because of this, he wasn’t entertained by his friends. Kids used to make fun of him. He was just like any other kid who gets upset and touched because of such a behavior but his mother was the pillar of strength for him. She once again had the hope that her son will do something special and exceptional and the whole world will look up to him as an inspiration. She kept on giving him simple yet life lessons through bedtime stories would take him for voluntary services, shelter homes. That gave Mike a picture of other kids who were facing similar or even more issues in their lives but they had no one who can be their pillar of strength.
Mike’s mom told him one thing “Our fate lives within us. You only have to be brave to see it.” And these words stayed with him since childhood. Mike used those moments when he couldn’t play with his friends to paint and explore the world through colors. Now, whenever he would feel sad, he used to paint and that gave him a new direction to think. He did his studies and got a degree in Fine Arts. Later with his efforts and his mom’s support, he got admission into top College in Fine Art. Years passed by and he was counted among the talented young painters. His first independent art-work got a place in an Art show where he got a lot of appreciation from other experienced painters. His first interview got published in the leading magazine. There is no looking back for him after this. All those you have discouraged him or his mother and called them names have no words to apologize. They never thought that Mike can achieve this much in his life.
In one of the later interview, Mike quoted his mom’s words. “I don’t know what success or happiness means to you. But one thing that I do know is hiding from the truth feels better in the short run, but one day you’re going to come across that mirror, pause, and see what you’ve really become. So why not to face the truth. Fate lives within us. Accept it and create a new life.”
I hope you felt inspired and moved a bit with Mike’s story. This was just a fiction but in reality, we often encounter such situation when we don’t know what to do. Sometimes the truth is within us. That’s our fate but we don’t accept it. If we are brave enough to face it then it will be tough in the beginning but it will give us immense satisfaction and happiness.
