Every year on Jan 26th, we celebrate Republic Day. Republic Day represents the true spirit of the independent India. By being independent, we say getting fresh air, expressing what we feel, going where we want, wearing what we feel like wearing, spending whenever or wherever we want. We call this freedom. It’s not wrong but there is something else which is more than just having freedom to act as per our wish. It is something which is with us all the time. I am talking about our self; our mind.
Is our mind free? Are we free from hatred, disgust, anger, jealousy? We live in an illusion all the time. We try to find joy and happiness in material things. Take a simple example, if our friend forgets to wish us on our birthday, we feel angry and bad for a while but do we think there could be a reason we didn’t get a call or message? No. We don’t. When our friend calls us later and tell the reason, then we feel bad for judging them. So, why to judge them in the first place?
I feel we live in a bubble of emotions that keep on overpowering our positivity time to time. So, when I talk about freedom, I strongly feel we should be able to free our mind, our soul from these negative thoughts. We should come out of the illusion which can be termed as Maya.
There are many books published on topics which explains us how to stay positive or how to drive your inner self towards the right direction. Many motivational speakers have given exceptionally powerful talks on how to stay positive, how to calm your mind. We often hear people saying meditation makes our mind quiet and focused. Few have mastered the skill to concentrate but many are still in the struggling phase. They sit to meditate but they are not able to stay focused for a long time. Why? Because their mind is not free from the thoughts. Their mind is occupied with so many other emotions that takes the front seat.
So, when I say freedom, I want to have freedom from all the negative thoughts that affect my inner state. I want to have freedom to free my mind from things that affect my positivity. This topic is more about self-realization. So, I would like to keep it open and would like to know what you think about it.
