Kaali2 – A nail-biting thriller- how far a mother can go for her love?
I am a big fan of thriller and suspense shows. To me, along with entertainment, strong storyline and compelling characters also play a significant role. Somehow shows that portray a woman in a leading and influential role grabs my attention.
It was at the end of 2018 when ZEE5, the OTT platform, had announced the launch of a ZEE5 Bengali Original and the first Bengali web series on the platform titled ‘Kaali’. Starring famous Bengali stars like Paoli Dam (who we have seen in Hate Story), Rahul Banerjee, and Shantilal Mukherjee, Kaali was directed by Korok Murmu and produced by Parambrata Chattopadhyay. It was a fast-paced 8 episodes show which showed the strength of a woman and what she can do for her child. In no time, it won the hearts of its viewers. Filled with hope, courage, danger, and betrayal, Kaali is a multi-layered show that gave jitters as it progressed towards the climax.

No doubt that the show has touched the hearts of its viewers. And the launch of its Season 2 was quite evident. Very soon, ZEE5 will be launching season2 of Kaali, which will be titled as Kaali2.
Similar to Season 1, Paoli Dam and Rahul Banerjee will be playing the lead roles, this season has actors Abhishek Banerjee, Vidya Malvade and Chandan Roy Sanyal. Same as Season 1, this series is again produced by Parambrata Chattopadhyay. The new season is to be directed by Aritra Sen.
Kaali is a story of a single, helpless mother (played by Paoli Dam) who lives with her son Sunny. She has separated from her husband as he got involved in illegal activities. Her life falls apart when her son meets with an accident, and her husband got involved in a murder case. She struggles to save her son, who has only a few hours of oxygen left in the cylinder. For this, she has to deposit 6lakhs at the hospital within 12 hours else her son won’t survive. She gets caught in depression and forgets the difference between right and wrong, which leads her path into drug trafficking. While she tries to solve her problems, a dangerous criminal escapes from the prison and a drug consignment reaches the city. As the tension increases, so is Kaali’s involvement in the corrupt, illegal practices, but her main motive is to save her son. Kaali gets caught in a drug war. Kaali2 exposes the dark side of Kolkata.

To begin with, the name. This name “Kaali” gained my attention in the first place. It’s a very powerful word and instantly generates a feeling of power. In India, we often address Kaali as Maa Kaali (Mother Kali). Kali, who is seen as the one destroying the evil forces, has so much in common with a mother who can face any tough situation for her children but never let any problem come near them. She can do anything for them.
The series establishes the truth that there is the power of Goddess Kali in every mother. The role of a woman or a mother has taken many turns and shades in the past years. She is not weak or vulnerable. And when the time comes, she can take the form of Maa Kali. I am sure, like Season 1, Kaali 2 will also win the hearts of its viewers.
