A mother has always been given an extra importance especially when it comes to kids’ issues. Moms are always been portrayed as super moms. All the good qualities, I guess, falls under her umbrella only. Is being a mom an automatic extension of being the holder of all the good qualities in which selflessness, patience and being calm and modest are always on the top in the list? Come on.. we are just moms. Another creation of god, I would say, just like others. We also have a part in ourselves that doesn’t want to grow, that needs to get pampered. After taking up this mommy role we actually re-live our childhood days (as the kid grows) ..But there is also a little girl in all of us. Don’t you agree?
I was thinking to write about this topic from many days but again my mommy brain used to get into some deep and more informative topics. But today I have decided to share some of my experiences with other mommies…after all us all sail in the same boat…right? So here it goes…
1. One of my uncles had gifted me a doll when I was a kid. I still have that doll and I do not hesitate in telling that I am little possessive about her. So…when my 5 years old asked me Aai (that’s what we call mom in our mother tongue) can I have your doll? Can you share it with me?
Me: hmm..I can
Her: We are friends right? And friends share…you always says this.
Me: Okaaaay..That’s right.
Her: So can I have it?
Now when she had framed her emotions and thoughts in a constructive/impressive/convincing manner, no doubt she was expecting a YES.
Me: Okay, you can have it but be careful…
I felt that why couldn’t I say Yes at the first place? It’s just a doll. And it is nobody else but my daughter asking for it. But then I realized that no..it is not about selfishness or saying no but I associate some feeling with that doll. Out of all my toys and gifts I have only this doll with me.
2. Do I really have to share my Ice cream?
Who doesn’t like ice creams? So the scene goes like this- I am enjoying ice cream watching my favorite serial thinking that my daughter is playing. She comes to me and says. Wow! You are having ice cream. Is it Vanilla..no is it chocolate. I like Vanilla more… Does it taste good? I asked her do you want some too. She said yes with her big eyes. “Can I get a spoon and we can share?” As a kid I liked Cone than Cup. I have always enjoyed and still enjoy having Ice cream in a cone. I was thinking why this “SHARE “word always come in the middle of our conversation when I am in the middle of enjoying something my favorite.
3. What happened to my mom?
My mom can do anything. She is smart, strong, active (no no super active). In short she is a magician. Mom never gets sick. And even if she is, she can get up quickly and get back to work forgetting all her pains. Every kid has these words when we ask them to tell something about their mom.
I went for my dentist appointment; my daughter got tensed seeing me lying down on the chair, mouth wide open and some stranger (for her)holding few instruments working in her mommy’s mouth. This scene didn’t seem very pleasing to her. I could see that she is little uncomfortable and holding her tears. When I was done, she hugged me tight and asked are you okay? OMG that was so so cute. I asked her why? I am fine…she said no mommies never get sick. After that incident she always offers me a glass warm water if I am not feeling well and make sure that I empty the glass. Warm water makes you feel better that’s what she thinks.
There are many more incidences which I could share and I know you all have lot to tell but the bottom line of all these incidences is for kids, say it or not, agree to it or not, their MOM IS THE WORLD’S BEST MOM. SHE IS “THE” SUPER MOM. Sometimes their small gesture makes us feel good and proud about ourselves. We do not wait for them to come and tell us our importance in their lives but we can easily sense that from their day today conversations, needs.
I am keeping this topic open to all my readers to share what you feel and think. Feel free to share your experiences with other moms just like you.
ENJOY!!
