A brand-new year has started. People are still coming out of the New Year’s Eve celebrations. They are still discussing and remembering the games they played, the food they enjoyed, and the party they enjoyed the most. That’s how parties are. They leave us with many memories to cherish. Going to a party as a guest is a different feeling than being the party’s host. Sometimes, it generates a lot of anxiety when thinking about hosting a party. I have seen people who want to have guests over, but even a simple event like hosting a dinner puts them in stress mode. Then, think of a party, and their anxiety is at the next level.
Whether hosting a party or having dinner, entertaining can be fun and stressful. Regardless of the number of guests, we need to do some planning. So, in this post, I am going to share some practical tips that will help you throw a party without stressing out.
My mantra to pulling off a party that you can enjoy, too Keep it simple. Here are a few of my suggestions for throwing a party without stressing out. These are all tried-and-tested ways.
How to throw a party without stressing out?
- Plan it well
- Keep your store trips minimum
- Delegate responsibilities
- Outsource food items if needed
- Keep the food simple
- Few small details make a big difference
- Don’t forget your little guests
- Be flexible
- Don’t try to make everything perfect. Relax!
Plan it well
Checking things off your “to-do” list early makes all the difference. Do some prep work. It will reduce your stress by half. Chopping vegetables, keeping masala ready for gravy dishes, and keeping fresh ginger-garlic paste ready will cut down your prep time, and you can jump straight on making your dish.
Keep your store trips minimum
When we have many things on my to-do list, it is obvious to feel overwhelmed. Planning will help us calm ourselves. During the planning step, make a list of things. And try to finish this task in one go.
Delegate responsibilities
Don’t take the burden of doing everything on your own. Involve your family members in the preparation. Even when preparing food, you can ask for help from your friends. We all have at least one or two close friends with whom we don’t have to be formal. You can call them and finish chores like changing your home decor or have them accompany you on shopping.
Outsource food items if needed
Who wouldn’t like to hear praise from the guests about our cooking skills? But focusing on 1-2 main dishes you want to prepare yourself and ordering a couple from your favorite restaurant can still solve the purpose. You can get the satisfaction of feeding your guests home-cooked food without stressing out.
Keep the food simple
Plan your menu depending on the occasion. More appetizers will work for a game night or a tea party. You don’t have to stress out about the main course. If it is a lunch or dinner, then have an appetizer depending on the time your guests are supposed to come.
Few small details make a big difference
A few small details make a big difference when you’re hosting a party at home. Some cute paper straws, a bouquet of flowers, bright cushions, proper lighting, or balloons go a long way and are all inexpensive. If you want to change cushion covers, tablecloths, curtains, etc., do it a day before. These chores can be done while watching TV.
Don’t forget your little guests
If you have kids at the party, think of some games to keep them occupied. This is the best option for birthday parties. Kids do not remember what they eat at a party, but they remember which birthday party they had the most fun.

Be flexible
You have planned it well, but be flexible if you change your pre-decided plan. Say you have planned an outdoor party, but the weather is unfavorable. Now, you have to change the setting and think of a few things to keep your guests entertained. Such incidents can make you worried. But catch a breath and think. Don’t stress out. Make full use of the internet to find indoor party games. You can also ask your friends to bring some options.
Don’t try to make everything perfect. Relax!
Give yourself a little time before your guests get there. When people arrive, remember that the most crucial thing they want to see is you and your smile!
