Baijnath Mishra, better known as Baiju Bawra , was a dhrupad (genre in Hidustani classical singing) musician from medieval India. Nearly all the information on Baiju Bawra comes from legends, and lacks historical authenticity. He was one of the court musicians of Raja Mansingh Tomar of Gwalior.
Tansen, the magical musician, was one of the ‘Navratna’ (nine gems) at the court of the Mughal Emperor Akbar. He is said to have no equals in music and it is believed that he had performed miracles through his music. He is supposed to had the ability of creating rain by singing rag Megh Malhar and creating fire by singing rag Deepak. He was a prominent figure of North Indian (Hindustani) classical music. Akbar considered him as a Navratrna (nine jewels), and gave him the title Mian, an honorific, meaning learned man. Tansen was a composer, musician and vocalist, to whom a large number of compositions have been attributed in northern regions of the Indian subcontinent. He was also an instrumentalist who popularized and improved musical instruments. He is among the most influential personalities in North Indian tradition of Indian Classical Music, called Hindustani.
