Chilli Mushroom:Indo-Chinese recipe

Chilli Mushroom is a classic Chinese dish. I like Indo-Chinese flavor more. You will find it very similar to Chilli Paneer but instead of Paneer, here we have used Mushrooms. Rest of the process is same. Also, with Chilli Paneer, you don’t have to cook Paneer a lot. But with mushroom, it requires time to be properly cooked.

There can be two ways to prepare this dish. One is the mushrooms are coated with the corn flour, all purpose flour batter batter and fried until golden brown and then sauteed in sweet and spicy sauce. Another is when you do not fry mushroom. Since, today’s Chilli Mushroom was not a planned dish and this was the first time, I tried it so I followed the latter. May be next time, I will do the former. I like those dishes which are easy to prepare and quick. That means less time in the kitchen but end product is tasty.

Mushrooms are versatile ingredient available in a huge variety of sizes, shapes and colors. They are low in calories, fat-free, cholesterol-free and very low in sodium. Mushrooms are rich in anti-oxidants, protein and contain vitamins such as B, C and D, while a few contain vitamin A. Don’t think that I was a Mushroom fan since childhood. Frankly, speaking I never tried Mushroom back in India. But after coming to the USA, I first tried it as a Pizza topping. Good way to experiment…right? I liked the grilled flavor. Then bought button mushroom one day and made curry with it adding spinach, corn, bell pepper to it. I liked it. After that, it took a spot in my vegetable basket.
