Being the first post of 2022, I am writing something that we often take for granted. We make resolutions and try to follow them. A few of them are changing our eating habits, regular exercising, keeping our weight in control, etc. All this about having a healthy lifestyle. But something that you forget is investing in yourself. These resolutions are aiming towards us, correct? Then what extra or different are we supposed to do? The answer is very simple, and it is in front of you, in fact, within you.
But before we talk about that, let me speak to you a little more. Think of the time when you went out shopping with your friends and didn’t worry about what your kids must be doing at home or have you learned any new skill lately, or have you challenged yourself by trying something new? If you have mostly answered as recently, yes, and yes, then great. If not, then please read further.
We, as moms, have this exceptional talent to put others first and then think about our well-being. Once we take the mommy role, we forget that we are first individuals and then mothers. While performing our role flawlessly, we stretch our limits but not towards ourselves. We do it in terms of working tirelessly, giving 101% towards our kids, thinking about our kids and family, and making everyone happy. But what about our happiness? If you feel that this is something you have been thinking about for a while and are ready to change your way of living, then pat your back. Let’s walk together as we talk more about how you can invest more in yourself.
Invest in yourself and get life-changing returns
- Invest in your attitude
- Invest in happiness
- Invest in good habits
- Invest in your health
- Invest in a hobby
- Invest in friends
- Invest in your potential
Invest in your attitude:
Our thoughts create our actions and, in turn, affect our behavior. Even though changing your outlook is a mental task, it’s a significant investment. However, if we can make an effort to change our attitude from negative to positive, it can help us in our well-being.
Invest in happiness:
Laugh often, and worry less: Have you been too busy solving parenting-related problems? Do you get anxious when it comes to your kid’s related issues?
According to Mayo Clinic, when it comes to relieving stress, more giggles are just what the doctor ordered. The why to wait? Put it into practice from this very moment. First, try to smile and then give a laugh. It may feel a little forced but just do it. Once you’ve had your chuckle, take a note of how you’re feeling. Are your muscles a little less tense? Do you feel more relaxed? See that’s the power of laughter.
Invest in good habits:
It takes 21 days for any new habit to get incorporated into your system. So, pausing your other priorities to create a positive shift in your routine is not a big sacrifice that you will be making. Isn’t it? Seek advice from people you admire, notice what they are doing, and how they are doing it. Try to incorporate those habits in your routine. If you will start looking around, you will find inspiration in abundance.
Invest in your health:
While you keep a close watch on what you eat, don’t starve yourself to the limit that it starts affecting your health. Please keep one thing in mind – something that has worked for your friend may or may not work for you. If you see anything unexpected, re-consider your choices.

Invest in a hobby:
I firmly believe that we all have hobbies. Some of us have explored it and are using it, but others haven’t spared time with their hobby. If you don’t have any hobbies, pause and think. What do you like to do in your free time? Hobby need not necessarily have to be anything fancy. If you like to try out new recipes, don’t take it for granted. Don’t see it as your everyday responsibility. See is what else you can do with your interest in cooking. I have seen many people who take cooking as a stress buster.
According to data from Linkedin Learning, creativity was the skill that everyone wanted in 2020. This was the second year creativity made the top spot, so it will likely continue to be in high demand in the years to come.
Invest in friends:
Unwind yourself. We all need a break. To break the monotony, take a day off. Here I am not just talking about work holidays. Sometimes, don’t indulge yourself in something time-taking. I have seen and personally experienced that it is hard to take a break in some unconventional jobs. But give yourself permission to take a day off when you can unwind yourself. Hang out with friends; talk to them; or spend time doing nothing. Yes, I said nothing. Sometimes our brain needs such a break.
Invest in your potential:
We are tempted to take the short and easy routes by nature. Anything that requires going the extra mile seems undoable to us. So, at least at first glance, we take a step back. Human beings follow the Teleological mechanism, which means we are purpose-driven. Our brain mechanism is designed to allow our actions to help us achieve our goals. We feel happy when we have a clear goal. Find that goal and take steps towards it. We give our 101% during the initial stages and once we get comfortable in that task, we stop progressing. Don’t let that happen. Grow each day. Learn something new each day.
I hope you will start to invest in yourself from today. If you like this post, share it with others and make their lives beautiful.
Loved the post Alpana. I agree we all get busy with many duties and responsibilities in our life and forget to pay attention on those things that matters most in life. Investing yourself is one of the best way to feel content and happy in life. This is the thing that brings success and happiness in all other areas of life.
Thank you Surbhi.
