Salted Yogurt Drink/Masala Chhach/Namkeen Lassi:
Lassi is a popular style of Indian drink made from homemade plain yogurt and served in tall steel glass or kulhads. One of the most common Indian yogurt drinks is salted yogurt drink i.e Namkeen Lassi. Last week, I was exploring few books in the library while my daughter was attending the kid’s event. I came across an interesting fact. Namkeen Lassi is very common in Turkey and it is their national drink. They call it Ayran.
A delicious way to calm your tummy after eating a spicy meal is to have this yogurt based beverage!..:)
Ok, so..back to the recipe.
You will need:
- 1/2 cup – Yogurt (homemade or store-bought)
- 1/2- 1 cup – Water
(some people like lassi to be thick. In that case don’t add too much of water. I like it 1/2 yogurt and 1/2 water)
- 3/4 teaspoon – Salt
- 1/4 teaspoon – Cumin powder
- Whisk the yogurt in a medium bowl until it is smooth and there are no lumps.
- Add water, salt, cumin powder. Mix together.
- Pour the lassi into glasses and enjoy!!
Note: You can add ginger, mint, green chilli, cilantro.
